This cool article was originally posted on this cell phone blog. I think idea and problems raised in this post are rather interesting and hence I wanted to share (with permission of the author) this with the rest of you guys! Have you read the latest news? Google is augmenting perceptive reality by the Project Glass while Nokia is patenting vibrating tattoos (I think it will be funny if you get them in the wrong places). Almost every 10 year old kid has a smartphone which is smaller than the mighty communication devices featured in Star Trek and can do more while connected to a super fast 4G network (read here what is 4G network). Never Mind the ever growing amount of apps for the phones – as usual, some are great help while 90% are out therejust to sell you some amusement. Laptops soon to be forgotten as they will become extinct to the various versions of the “x”Pads – no matter if they are made by Apple or Samsung or even Google or any other tech savvy company – just one tiny touch missing – a projected keyboard to help input information faster (or perhaps that smart thought reading machine?) YouTube is now available in 3D on your latest LED flat screen which is also plugged into world wide web to deliver news to you straight from the source in full HD quality – amazing! People are researching and experimenting with the reading human thoughts with the help of the smart machines – for instance, latest development of latest device to help genius Stephen Hawking to speak and keep writing his fantastic books. Amazing! The first flying car is featured at a price tag of only a quarter million dollars and it does seems like electric (not the hybrid) cars are about to return to the market. And now let’s rewind back a little bit – think five years. Could you have imagined such a leap? What about ten years? We truly live in amazing time. What is the point of this article? While all these things are great to say the least, my choice of words would be fantastic and fascinating, they all are a little bit… how should I put it… consumer oriented. Based on the driving need to sell more to more customers. I agree, supply and demand drives modern economy and there is little we can do about it. But let’s think what there is not on the market. How about devices or even apps for the same smartphones which could control energy usage in your house? I mean, how hard would be to come up with a simple computer that could control energy, lights, heating cooling and even hot water consumption in your household? Wouldn’t that be great? Have you seen anything like that available on the market today? With the exception of very rich people, it’s not available to the common populus. I mean, how hard would it be to develop a device that is wired to your fusebox, has a rather simple software, contains network adapter (think Wi-Fi or just base ethernet) and few sensors around the house or even built into the power outlets and a small app on your phone to see how much and where are you using electricity – I mean, today such a device should be available because even simplest smartphone on the market today have at least 5 sensors built into and they are tiny and, apparently, cheap. The point I want to make is following – we all know that resources are finite on our lovely planet and it would be time to use all those technological marvels and try save some more, on the end user level, offering modern technology to control energy usage. I think, in modern countries there should be even government grants to install such a devices. Not only they would lower your monthly energy costs, but also help save environment. Everything counts!
