Facebook is interested in developments in AI because it will improve their ability to reach users with targeted stories and advertisements, improving the overall Facebook experience. This move adds Facebook to the AI race, as Google and Yahoo have been looking into this sort of technology recently as well. Who would have thought that it was social media rather than military technology that would finally create Skynet!
